. These time-lapse images show the disintegration of the Schwassmann–Wachmann 3 (S-W 3) comet. This comet disintegrated over the past several decades. The Hubble telescope captured detailed photos of its breakup. An ad hoc Oort Cloud was invented to try to account for these comets still being present after billions of years. The National Inventors Hall of Fame in Alexandria, Virginia makes a perfect destination for curious kids and grown-ups alike. You'll learn about the inventors of everything from internet technology to the Hubble telescope, plus how things are invented, patented and more. Little creators will love Camp Invention in the summer months, but the museum offers year-round invention programs for Pre-K to adult. Click here to read more about the museum. Online: invent.org
Signal may be from first 'exomoon' - BBC News. A team of astronomers has potentially discovered the first known moon beyond the Solar System. If confirmed, the "exomoon" is likely to be about the size and mass of Neptune, and circles a planet the size of Jupiter but with 10 times the mass.

After the millions of years of Big Bang. The radiation starts dissolving the stable Hydrogen gas into a plasma. It permeates the universe and allows the visible light to pass. Thus, there was finally a beam of light. #light #universe #bigbang

In 1609, Galileo improved the newly invented telescope, turned it toward the heavens, and revolutionized our view of the universe. In celebration of the 400th anniversary of this milestone, 2009, the year this image was composited, was designated as the International Year of Astronomy.
Rajen - Peter John Campbell 13/11/46 - 20/10/13 Peter was an intelligent, independent-minded and creative youngster. He went to Manchester University, with its excellent Science Department, to pursue a career in Electronic Engineering. After leaving university he set up a company, Tekdata Ltd, alongside colleagues, Ray and Geoff and developed the production of a ground-breaking, flat-woven ribbon cable, to connect electronic equipment. This invention would have far-reaching potential. After a series of events Peter became a follower of Osho. Osho sent Peter a prophetic message with his new name, Prem Rajen. "All ties with the past will be broken" During the next thirty years a new life unfolded for Rajen. He made many sanyasin friends, including several important, deep and lasting friendships with Niranjana and Tanmaya and Miten. Business was Peter's natural element, and he set up Rajen Services, followed by Bells Associates. His business interests were diverse, and included a Financial Directorship with Labyrinth, a publishing company, to managing the Sacred Mantra tours of musicians, Deva Premal and Miten. He became a respected mentor to many friends and associates. Peter faced his illness with great courage, hopefulness, and grace. Tekdata's innovative connectors can now be found in the Jodrell Bank Radio-Telescope, several modern aeroplanes and out in Deep Space, in the Hubble Space Probe. Written by Ann Campbell on behalf of Peter's family and friends.

Georges Lemaitre was a Belgian priest, astronomer and professor of physics at the University of Louvain. He was the first person to propose the theory of the expansion of the universe, widely misattributed to Edwin Hubble. He was also the first to derive what is now known as Hubble's law and made the first estimation of what is now called the Hubble constant, which he published in 1927, two years before Hubble's article. LemaƮtre also proposed what became known as the Big Bang theory.

Kepler Supernova Remnant. Four hundred years ago, before the invention of the telescope, astronomers were amazed by the appearance of a new star. It soon dimmed to invisibility, but they noted its location in the sky. Later astronomers, with the aid of telescopes, found at the location of the new star a nebulous cloud of glowing gas (image above). The developing theory of nuclear-powered stars led them to believe the cloud was a spherical shell of gas blown away by an exploding star.
